Open House is a partnership between the Royal College of Art and Delfina Foundation, reflecting on the significance of artists’ residencies at Delfina Foundation over the last 10 years. Responding to the Foundation's current theme, Open House will temporarily assemble an intangible collection of artists’ experiences and memories, and the communal legacy drawn together from the Foundation's previous residents. Six international curators from the Royal College of Art Curating Course will activate this new collection over the course of a single weekend.
The format expands on the traditional iteration of the ‘open house’, where the public are invited to wander through the interior of architecturally significant buildings. In Open House the audience will be invited to explore not only Delfina Foundation’s domestic spaces, but access past residents’ memories and experiences in a unique collision of past and present.
Artists based in the UK and internationally will produce a series of new artworks ranging from performative, gastronomical and sculptural. Renowned Irish performance artist Laura Wilson will explore the intersections of history, architecture, and performance. Whilst London based artist Kathrin Böhm will extend her long-standing interest into public spaces and collaborative practices via a performative lecture. A further contribution from Syrian playwright Mudar Alhajji will investigate the preservation of memory through texts.
Open House takes place on the 20th and 21st of May, fostering new lines of creative enquiry around the role of residency programmes, as well as the intersections between public and private in contemporary art today.
