A. M. Qattan Foundation
Residencies for Palestinian artists in London
Since 2008, Delfina Foundation has working in association and in partnership with the A. M. Qattan Foundation on developing residency opportunities for artists.
Delfina Foundation and A. M. Qattan Foundation collaborate on residencies to support contemporary Palestinian artists as well as build awareness in the UK of contemporary art from Palestine via public programmes at Delfina Foundation and the Mosaic Rooms.
The first artist, Jawad Al Malhi from Jerusalem, was selected to take part in a residency at Delfina Foundation. His residency took place in London for two months in June and July 2010 and included an exhibition at the Mosaic Rooms and Delfina Foundation. After his residency, Jawad also participated in The Spacemakers, a group exhibition curated by Delfina Foundation for the Edinburgh Art Festival 2010.
In 2011, Mohammad Hawajri and Hazem Harb, both from Gaza (the latter based now in Italy), were selected for a residency at Delfina Foundation. Mohammad's visa was rejected and he was unable to take up the residency.
In 2015, Jumana Emil Abboud is undertaking a series of residency visits that will culminate in a group exhibition, Echoes & Reverberations at the Hayward Gallery Project Space.
Delfina Foundation's collaboration with A.M. Qattan Foundation builds on an early initiative in 2007 with the Riwaq Biennale Resident Artist Award. With the assistance of A. M. Qattan Foundation, Delfina Foundation offered residencies to Manal Mahamid, Yazan al-Khalili and Wafa Hourani in 2008.
