A.i.R Dubai

Launch of 2013 programme and open calls

We are happy to announce this year’s A.i.R Dubai residency programme for curators and artists run by The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, Delfina Foundation, Art Dubai, and Tashkeel.  The residents (three Emirati artists, three artists from the Middle East and Asia, and an international curator-in-residence) are given the opportunity to showcase their work at Art Dubai during Art week in March.

In 2013, the residencies will run from January 7 to March 31, coinciding with the 7th edition of Art Dubai. We have launched open calls for applications for the Emirati artists and international curators. The international artists-in-residence however, will be selected through a nomination and jury process, with the four residency partners and our 2013 Guest Juror, Cairo-based curator Sarah Rifky.

Emirati artists can explore a range of media and disciplines spanning painting, mixed-media, sculpture, installation or video. The deadline for submissions is September 16, 2012: for more details please contact Dubai Culture (Phone +971 4 8004003 or e-mail artsservices@dubaiculture.ae).  While curators living outside the UAE are encouraged to apply for the 2013 curator-in- residence position, which offers opportunities to carry out in-depth research, curatorial activities, and critical writing regarding the arts scenes of the UAE and the Gulf. Application forms and further details are available here.

The curator-in-residence programme is in collaboration with ArtAsiaPacific magazine.
