Mohammed Al Faraj

London: 15/08/18 — 02/09/18

Mohammed Al Faraj (Saudi Arabia) is a freelance artist and filmmaker from Saudi Arabia, born in AlHassa and now based in the Eastern Province. In his practice he works with film and photography, producing video installations. He mainly focuses on and explores subjects and stories that deal with identity, youth, place, environment and the relationship between humans and nature. His practice shifts between non-fiction and fiction subjects, investigating and traversing the line between them. He has recently shifted to a more research-based practice, yet he tries to visually capture the poetics of themes like the relationship between species and coexistence.

Mohammad will use his residency to develop his tools as an artist and to research and re-visit the subject of our changing world and how it's affecting us as species on this planet.

Mohammed graduated from KFUPM with a BA in mechanical engineering. In 2015 he made a short documentary called LOST about the stateless Arabs in southern Saudi Arabia which was screened at several film festivals including in Dubai, Paris and NYC. His debut video work The Sun, Again (2017) was part of Jeddah 21,39 art week. His second work to be exhibited was Sophia, which was part of the exhibition The Clocks Strikes Thirteen at Athr in Jeddah in 2018.
