Born in Egypt in 1982, Magdi Mostafa is a Cairo-based artist who works primarily with site-specific, research-driven sound projects, multimedia installations, and experimental music. Magdi began his experimental investigations into sound and architecture in 2001. Since then, his work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions internationally, including Cairo Documenta in Cairo, Egypt; The One & The Multiple in Barcelona, Space; the Biblioteca of Alexandria; Artellewa Gallery, and the Cairo Opera House.
Magdi has been awarded prizes by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture for his work in the Salon of Youth on three different occasions, and has participated in residency programs in the U.S. and Europe, including at the Bronx Museum for the Arts (2010), Cittadell'arte in Italy (2010), and the Hanger Arts and Media Center in Spain (2009). In 2001, he participated in Artissima18 International Fair of Contemporary Art, Turin.
